The Asian Institute of Technology acknowledges Dr. Poompat
Saengudomlert, an Assistant
Professor
of Telecommunications (TC) Field of Study,
School of Engineering and Technology (SET), for his accomplishment in
translating a book  “A Brief History of Communications” into Thai
version. Dr. Poompat translated the third part of the book which
tackles the history of world’s communications technology and
influential inventors. He was among the top professionals asked to
serve in this team. The project took him approximately one month to
finish.

The book was published in accordance to the 30th
Anniversary of The Institute of Electrical and Electronics
Engineers (IEEE Thailand Section
) in 2007. “A Brief History of
Communications” in Thai version was published and supported by several
Thai government agencies and private companies such as the Institute
for the Promotion of Teaching Science and Technology, Thailand National
Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), AIT, etc.

A hand-over ceremony of the Thai version of “A Brief History of
Communications” was organized by the National Electronics and Computer
Technology Center (NECTEC)/NSTDA, on 20 August 2008 at
NECTEC. During the ceremony, Mr. Naris Srinual, President
of IEEE Thailand Section, presented the books to all of the supporters
of publishing these books. All supporters then donated 4,600 copies of
this book to the Institute for the Promotion of Teaching Science and
Technology for its further activities. Mr. Pratkasem Vesarach, a
Telecommunications doctoral student in AIT, represented Dr. Poompat in
receiving the book at the hand-over ceremony.

The Thai version of “A Brief History of Communications” was translated
from a book, “A Brief History of Communications: IEEE Communications
Society – A Fifty Year Foundation for the Future,” which was published
in 2002 by IEEE Communications Society. IEEE Communications Society was
formed by a group of professionals in the USA They laid the foundation
but the society expanded as their networks widened
worldwide.

“A Brief History of Communications” serves an importance purpose to
electrical communications sector by promotion in Thai. By presenting a
brief history of communications and important events such as the
development of telegraph, telephone, distant communications, radar,
satellite, and wireless communications systems, the book is deemed to
be an important tool for the publicity of the IEEE Communications
Society.

The book also contains the interviews of respective personnel in the
communications sector together with the insertion of fragments of
discoveries and important work of these personnel. It also concludes
important events in the form of an archive.

The Thai chapter of IEEE Communications Thailand recognizes the
importance of disseminating this knowledge and thus published 6000
copies of the book “A Brief History of Communications” in Thai version
and distributed them into the libraries, schools, universities
nationwide as well as sending them to the members of IEEE
Communications Thailand (Chapter) for free of charge. The Thai version
of the book “A Brief History of Communications” was also produced in an
e-book format to promote the role of the society which will be useful
for pupils, students and the general public.
