AIT celebrates International Women's Day
AIT once again joined the world in observing and celebrating the International Women's Day on 8 March 2007. The Gender Development Studies (GDS) of the School of Environment, Resources and Development at AIT organized a march around the campus, followed by short speeches by Professor Sudip K. Rakshit, Vice President for Research, and Dr. Philippe Doneys, a new faculty in the Gender and Development field of study at an event held at the Korea House. The talks covered the developmental aspects of gender mainstreaming and some of the proactive actions being taken for gender sensitization and promoting gender equality at AIT. They also mentioned the possibility of introducing a special thesis prize in the area of gender development. Further smaller awareness-raising activities will be conducted in the following weeks.
On the same day, the AIT International Women's Group (IWG) at AIT invited Dr. Yothaka Pakapong, lecturer in Faculty of Nursing, Thammasat University, to deliver a lecture on 'Women and Risk of Cardiovascular Diseases'. Later in the evening the AIT-IWG screened the internationally acclaimed movie 'Water' (story about the plight of widows in 1930s South Asia).
