Dr. Tej Bunnag
, who was recently reinstated back as the
Chairman of the AIT Board of Trustees, was recognized as Thailand
Tatler
magazine’s “Person of the Year” for 2008.

At the presentation ceremony for the award at the magazine’s 17th
Anniversary Celebration held in Bangkok, Dr. Tej made a reference in
his speech to his brief but significant tenure as foreign minister of
Thailand. During the Thai-Cambodian crisis over the Prear Viharn
temple, Dr. Tej led Thailand in negotiations with its
neighbor for a diplomatic solution.

A former ambassador of Thailand to the United States, France, and
Permanent Representative of Thailand to the United Nations, Dr. Tej has
held an illustrious diplomatic career in the foreign service of
Thailand, first joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1969.

H.E. Dr. Tej joined AIT as member of its Board on 25 April 2005 and
was appointed as Vice Chairman of the Executive Committee the same
year. He was elected as Chairman of the Board on 30 October 2006,
replacing H.E. Mr. Anand Panyarachun, the former Prime Minister of
Thailand, who served as AIT Board Chairman for 6 years.
