Workshop on biotechnology and bio safety measures

AIT hosted a workshop on 'Understanding Policy Processes in Biotechnology and Bio safety Measures in Thailand and China' which was held at AIT during 4-5 April 2007, sponsored by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), Canada. Prof. Said Irandoust, AIT President, attended the opening ceremony.

The workshop was the culmination of 20 months of research on policy processes and outcomes in biotechnology in Thailand and China. Major research findings were presented at the workshop by the research teams in Thailand (AIT) and in China (Center for Biodiversity and Indigenous Knowledge or CBIK). Participants also discussed the implications of the research findings on policies and future practices of key stakeholders.

Dr. Bernadette Resurreccion and Dr. Edsel Sajor coordinated the workshop which was the first phase. The launching of the second phase to cover other countries such as Vietnam, Philippines and Indonesia is expected to take place.
