AIT Extension, SciDevNet, UNESCO Workshop for journalists and communicators
Coinciding the XV International Aids Conference to be held in Bangkok from 11-16 July 2004, AIT in cooperation with Science Development Network (SciDevNet), England and UNESCO Paris, France will hold a workshop for journalists and other communicators from Southeast Asia. The workshop entitled The Use of ICTs for Reporting on the Science of HIV/AIDS will be held on 6 - 14 July 2004 at the AIT Conference Center.
The workshop is aimed for journalists and other communicators who wish to enhance their use of information and communication technology for reporting on scientific and medical research into HIV/AIDS. It follows from two previous successful workshops of the same theme, held in Kampala, Uganda, in April 2003, and Chennai, India in November 2003, and brings together participants from a number of different Southeast Asian countries.
Topics to be discussed include media coverage of HIV/AIDS in Southeast Asia, internet-mediated communication, HIV/AIDS discussion fora and email user groups, vaccines, communicating about vaccine research, and ethical reporting, developing the story angle, HIV drugs online, the science and ethics of microbicides, Southeast Asia resources on HIV/AIDS, reporting HIV/AIDS research, and the application of ICTs for communicating information on HIV/AIDS. The expected outcome of the workshop is that attending journalists and communicators shall have learned ICT tools for acquiring and disseminating information on HIV/AIDS in South East Asia.
