‘C40 Large Cities Climate Summit’ selects Waste Concern in Bangladesh as case study

‘Waste Concern’, a pioneering CDM-based compost project in Bangladesh headed by two AIT alumni Mr. Maqsood Sinha and Mr. Iftekhar Enayetullah, has been selected as a case study for the `C40 Large Cities Climate Summit’ to be held 14-17 May 2007 in New York City, USA.

Waste Concern was established by Mr. Sinha after graduating from AIT in 1993. Over the years the organization has received numerous international awards including the one by Mr. Kofi Anan on behalf of UNDP.

The second `C40 Large Cities Climate Summit’ will gather leaders of municipal governments and international businesses from over thirty world cities in New York City. William Jefferson Clinton, the 42nd President of the United States of America and Michael R. Bloomberg, Mayor of the City of New York, will be keynote speakers at the Summit.

New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and a group of private corporate underwriters that are engaged in efforts to address climate change and encourage the use of renewable energy and green construction will host the summit on behalf of the C40 and the Clinton Climate Initiative. The event is being organized by the Partnership for New York City, with support from New York Global Partners, Inc., the Climate Group, the Rockefeller Brother’s Fund & ICLEI USA.

The sponsors are inviting the mayors of select cities, as well as climate or energy officials and a few business leaders of those cities, along with an expected 250 delegates in total. Throughout the four-day event, delegates will share best practices, identify collaborative projects and chart future actions relative to reversing dangerous climate change and realizing economic development.
