AIT is one of the field venues for this international sports event,
and it will host 10 international matches for eight teams from
Bangladesh, China, Ireland, the Netherlands, Papua New Guinea,
Scotland, Zimbabwe, and hosts Thailand.
The eight international teams will play an eight-day tournament at two
venues in Bangkok — AIT grounds and Thailand Cricket Ground (TCG), to
decide the two qualifying teams that will ultimately play the ICC World
Twenty20 to be held in India next year.
The teams are divided into two groups of four each, with hosts
Thailand being among the hopefuls in Group A along with Bangladesh,
Scotland, and Papua New Guinea. Group B has teams from Ireland, the
Netherlands, China and Zimbabwe.
The tournament begins on 28 November with Thailand’s team called
“Tomorrow Thailand” led by captain Sornnarin Tippoch playing Bangladesh
at Thailand Cricket Ground. They will also play at AIT Grounds where
they take on Papua New Guinea the next day. At a press conference held
on 28 November in Bangkok, President of Cricket Association of
Thailand, Mr. Ravi Sehgal and team captain Sornnarin exuded full
confidence about the team’s preparedness for the tournament.
AIT will host 10 international matches including the six qualifiers,
two Shield Semi-Finals, besides the Shield Trophy and playoff for the
third position.
