UN-HABITAT, AIT sign MoA
The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) and the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) on Tuesday, October 28, 2003.
AIT will provide technical expertise to UN-HABITAT activities in the Asia and Pacific Region, while UN-HABITAT will provide technical, financial and network support in strengthening AIT's research capacity in the urban sector, and will promote AIT as a center of learning and training in Asia in urban development.
The main activities to be undertaken by the Collaborating Partners under this MOA, are to strengthen the existing UMP-AIT Partnership, to serve as the Regional Coordinating Secretariat and to include other UN-HABITAT Global and Inter-regional Campaigns and Programmes such as Best Practices and Local Leadership Programme; Urban Indicators Programme; Safer Cities Programme; Sustainable Cities Programme.
For the purposes of this MOA, AIT is represented by the School of Environment, Resources & Development (SERD), where two Fields of Study, namely Urban Environmental Management (UEM) and Gender & Development Studies (GDS) constitute the Joint Programme Committee (JPC) that has been the partner of UN-HABITAT's Urban Management Programme (UMP-Asia), and will henceforth undertake activities in partnership with UN-HABITAT.
The MoA was signed by Mr. Toshi Noda, Director UN-HABITAT, Regional Office for Asia and Pacific; and Prof. Jean-Louis Armand, AIT president and witnessed by UMP-Asia; UMP-AIT Joint Programme Committee and UN-HABITAT.
