The Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) has signed a
second memorandum of agreement (MoA) with the Chulabhorn Research
Institute (CRI) and Mahidol University (MU) for an inter-university
post-graduate education program in environmental toxicology, technology
and management.
HRH Princess Chulabhorn, Ph.D., President, Chulabhorn
Research Institute, graciously presided over the official partnership
signing ceremony on 22 December 2008 at the Chulabhorn
Research Institute, signing the deal on behalf of CRI. The agreement
was also signed by President of AIT, Prof. Said Irandoust,
and the President of Mahidol University (MU), Clin. Prof. Piyasakol
Sakolsatayadorn.
The AIT and CRI / MU international program is
intended to foster academic cooperation between three of Thailand’s
leading research institutions and facilitate jointly-conferred master’s
and doctoral degrees in the field of environmental toxicology,
technology and management.
The three-way deal opens the door for cooperation in education,
research and training by faculty members, staff and students of the
participating institutions. The program will allow for the guest
lecture courses, and the exchange of information, library materials and
research publications. Research scientists and graduate students will
be able to navigate across the institutions for study and research
purposes.
According to MoA, the new partners will identify and implement joint
research projects, including the preparation of joint publications, and
develop joint proposals for education activities that fall within the
scope of the deal. The new joint program builds on an
earlier AIT-CRI partnership signed in 1996 that currently
supports the training of scientists in basic and applied research in
the area of environmental toxicology, technology and management.
At the ceremony, AIT President Prof. Said Irandoust
presented a report to HRH Princess Chulabhorn that
highlighted the major outcomes of the previous memorandum of agreement,
and explained the key plans contained in the new inter-university
postgraduate program that will last until 31 December
2013.
