Visiting AIT

On 20 July 2004, Prof. Dr. Syed Zahoor Hassan (above right), Vice Chancellor of Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) of Pakistan visited AIT.

During the visit, Prof. Hassan met with Prof. Jean-Louis Armand, AIT President; Prof. Mario T. Tabucanon, Provost; Prof. Huynh Ngoc Phien, Dean SAT; Dr. Nazrul Islam, Acting Dean SOM; Prof. Himangshu Paul, Faculty, SOM; and Mr. Kyaw Soe Hlaing, Alumni Relations Officer.

The meeting focused on exploring areas of collaboration between AIT and LUMS including student exchanges with emphasis on doctoral programs offered, joint research activities and a possible faculty exchange between both Institutes.

Prof. Dr. Hassan also met with Dr. Teerapat Sanuankotchakorn, Telecommunications FoS Coordinator, SERD and discussed potential cooperation in the Telecommunications field of study.

On July 19-21, 2004, a delegation from International Network on Water, Environment and Health, United Nations University (UNU-INWEH) visited AIT. The delegation was comprised of Dr. Colin Mayfield, Assistant Director, UNU-INWEH and Dr. Velma I. Grover, Project Management Officer and Water Virtual Learning Center (WVLC) Coordinator. The visit aimed to discuss about the establishment of a Regional Center for the WVLC Project at AIT.

During the visit Dr. Mayfield and Dr. Grover held meetings with Prof. Jean-Louis Armand, President; Prof. Mario T. Tabucanon, Provost; Prof. Chongrak Polprasert, Dearn SERD and Acting SCE Dean; the WVLC Working Group at AIT comprised of Dr. Babel, Prof. Das Gupta, Dr. Ikejima, Dr. Naowarat, Ms. Kanya, Prof. Kanchana, Dr. Harianto, Mr. Eng Ng Wan, CFO; Dr. Raman, and Prof. Thanh.

The meeting further aimed to review AIT''s capabilities in all aspects relevant to the foreseen cooperation on the WVLC project. The UNU-INWEH delegation expressed their appreciation and were impressed at AITâ??s capabilities. The delegation further expressed its confidence and anticipated no difficulties will be met in involving AIT as a Regional Center for the WVLC project. Detailed discussions were also made on the issues of technical cooperation, project coordination, technology and equipment required, and financial and administrative arrangements.
