University of South Africa to partner AIT in the AIT-Africa Initiative

Professor N. Barney Pityana, Principal and Vice Chancellor of University of South Africa (UNISA), expressed keen interest in partnering AIT in the AIT-Africa Initiative, following a breakfast meeting with AIT President Said Irandoust on 5 May 2007.

The UNISA Vice Chancellor was also interested in sending UNISA faculty to this region to have them to gain more international exposure; AIT will be considered as a possible host. Likewise, they plan to host AIT faculty (for sabbaticals) and staff at UNISA. Plans for postgraduate students from UNISA to pursue part of their studies at AIT were also mentioned.

AIT and UNISA will continue to discuss implementation modalities in the areas which have been proposed.

UNISA (http://www.unisa.ac.za/) is South Africa's largest university and among the largest distance education institutions in the world. UNISA offers undergraduate to doctoral degrees in five main areas, namely engineering, environment, management, humanities and law.
