Collaboration with Ceylinco Education Group discussed

AIT's collaboration with Ceylinco group was discussed during the meeting of Prof. S. Rakshit, Vice President for Research and Prof. S. Kumar, Dean, School of Environment, Resources and Development (SERD) with Mr. Jagath Alwis, Deputy Chairman Ceylinco Education Group, Ceylinco Consolidated Ltd. on 7 May 2007. The meeting was arranged and also attended by Mr. Sanjeev Jaysinghe, Fundraising Campaign Director, AIT.

Initially, qualified Sri Lankan students from the private sector and industry will be attracted through the vast Ceylico marketing and network channels to pursue full time Master's degree program at AIT in the field of Food Engineering and Applied Biotechnology. Ceylinco Education Group(CEG) being AIT's exclusive partner in this venture will market the programme for the institute and recruit full-paying candidates through their contacts.

In the first year, CEG is to recruit 2-4 master's candidates for entry to AIT in the August 2007 intake. The first batch will spend the entire duration of their studies at AIT. In the second year, if numbers are sufficient, candidates will spend 1-2 semesters at the CEG ICBT campus in Colombo, Sri Lanka, before furthering their studies at AIT for the final stage.

An MoU will be drafted by Dean SERD very shortly on the first year program, including the terms and conditions for CEG as agreed upon during the 7th May meeting in Colombo, and the Deputy Chairman CEG plans to visit AIT on 23-24 May, to meet with AIT President and Vice Presidents and to sign the MOU.
