Thailand’s ‘Philosophy of Sufficiency Economy’ highlighted at AIT by mobile exhibition on ‘Royal Wisdom and Thai Culture’
Organized by Thailand’s Public
Relations Department (PRD), in cooperation with AIT and the Royal
Development Projects Board, the exhibition entitled “Royal Wisdom and
Thai Culture” was launched at the AIT Conference Center on Aug.
26.

The exhibition forms a part of the PRD public relations campaign to
promote a favorable image of Thailand, aiming to spread the message of
this philosophy to a wider international audience. It also explores the
values of Thai art, culture, history and folk life in various regions
of the county.

Mr. Prawin Pattanapong, Deputy Director General of the Government
Public Relations Department and Mrs. Suwanna Pasiri, Deputy
Secretary-General of the Royal Development Projects Board, were
welcomed to the campus for the ceremonial unveil of the exhibit by
Prof. Kazuo Yamamoto, AIT Vice President for Resource
Development.

Mrs. Kamolinee Suksriwong, Executive Director of the Bureau of Study
and Extension of the Royal Development Works, Royal Development
Projects Board, delivered a keynote speech at the event on “Philosophy
of Sufficiency Economy for Sustainability.”

“We consider the Philosophy of Sufficiency Economy to be the greatest
gift from The King for all Thais,” Mrs. Kamolinee said.

According to the PRD, the Philosophy of Sufficiency Economy is an
innovative approach to development designed for practical application
over various problems and situations. Bestowed by HM The King, it
focuses on moderation, reasonableness, and self-immunity.

Internationally recognized, the philosophy can be applied by everyone
in their daily life. It guides the transformation to a new national
management system, based on the goals of efficiency, quality of life,
and sustainability, the PRD said in a press release.

The Philosophy of Sufficiency Economy has been adopted by the Royal
Thai Government as one of its major development policies since
1997.  Eager to share its experiences with various countries in
the application of this philosophy, it is now taking the message on the
road to educate and entertain foreign audiences around the
country.

The AIT Student Union coordinated with the PRD to bring the event to
the AIT campus for the first time. The Student Union was represented at
the event by its president Muhammad Imran Lodhi.

The multicultural community witnessed Thailand’s distinctive heritage
on display and delighted in a traditional dance performance by a troupe
from Ritthinarongron School.

“The Philosophy of Sufficiency Economy represents the guiding light to
help the Thai people to survive through hard times. Not only during the
1997 economic crisis but also in the years after. The philosophy has
been able to lead us to have a sustainable way of life in all aspects
and at all levels: individual, community and national,” Mrs. Kamolinee
concluded.
