AIT and Ceylinco Education Group, Sri Lanka to collaborate

On 22 May 2007 a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by AIT President Prof Said Irandoust and Mr Jagath Alwis, Deputy Chairman Ceylinco Education Group (CEG), Sri Lanka, to provide higher education opportunities for candidates from Sri Lankan industry, government ministries etc. looking to pursue Masters degree in the field of Food Engineering and Bio Process technology (FEBT) programme at AIT.

CEG under this MOU for the Aug 2007 and Jan 2008 intakes will market the FEBT programme in Sri Lanka and send a minimum of 2 candidates per each intake to AIT, wherein the candidates will pay the full AIT tuition rate. In the second, third and fourth year of the MOU if a minimum number of students are recruited then a part of the academic course work will be offered in Colombo through the CEG campus.

This MOU is a result of the discussions of Prof Sudip K. Rakshit, VP-Research, Prof S. Kumar, Dean SERD and Mr. Sanjeev Jayasinghe, Fundraising Campaign Director, with Mr. Alwis in Colombo on 7 May 2007.

The Ceylinco Education Group(CEG)is a member of the largest and highly respected and diversified group of companies known as Ceylinco Consolidated. The companies under CEG deliver under graduate/post graduate degree programmes jointly with reputed international universities and certificates and also diploma programmes of their own.

Discussions were also held between AIT President, Dr. Ir. Khin Ni Ni Thein, VP-DR, Dean Kumar and Sanjeev Jayasinghe with the CEG Deputy Chairman to discuss the possibility of using CEG and its vast network of contacts in establishing the AIT Centre in Sri Lanka. The President requested Mr. Sanjeev to actively pursue this centre concept with CEG, especially with regard to a tri party arrangement that is AIT, CEG and the Sri Lankan government.
