An AIT alumnus appointed as a Senior Research Economist at the World Bank

Dr. Govinda Timilsina, an AIT alumnus, and advisee of Prof. Ram M. Shrestha, has recently joined the Development Research Group (DEG) of the World Bank in Washington, DC, as a Senior Research Economist. Dr. Timilsina received his M. Eng. in 1994 and D. Eng. in 2001 from AIT in the area of energy economics and planning. At the World Bank, Dr. Timilsina will be involved in research programs on climate change policies for low carbon intensive economic growth in developing countries.

Prior to joining the World Bank, Dr. Timilsina worked as a Senior Research Director at the Canadian Energy Research Institute (CERI), Calgary, Canada, where he was engaged in climate change policy research for the Canadian federal and provincial governments and assessment of economic impacts of developing Alberta's oil sands. One of his recent studies titled 'Economic Impacts of Alberta's Oil Sands' (available at www.ceri.ca for free download) was not only highly received by the Alberta provincial government and Canadian federal government but also was widely publicized by the media in Canada.
