Workshop on earth observation using satellite technology
More than 150 scientists, researchers, engineers and policymakers from all over the world attended the international workshop on Earth Observation Satellite Application for Natural Resource Monitoring, held at AIT on 11-12 September. The workshop was organized by the Committee on Earth Observation Satellites (CEOS) and the Working Group on Information Systems and Services (WGISS). It was jointly hosted by the National Development Agency of Japan ( NASDA ) and the National Research Council of Thailand.
Among the workshop topics was the application of information technology, including WWW systems, in the global exchange or dissemination of satellite data, such as those needed to monitor forest destruction. Also discussed were prospects and constraints concerning promoting IT-supported earth observation satellite data use in Southeast Asia. New Internet systems were demonstrated, linking Thailand, Japan, United States, Europe and other countries.
Following the workshop is a three-day CEOS/WGISS meeting currently going on at Chulalongkorn University.
