Time Series Analysis of NOAA AVHRR 10-Day NDVI Composites
As part of the seminar series being organized by the Space Technology Applications and Research Program in the School of Advanced Technologies, a seminar entitled, 'Time Series Analysis of NOAA AVHRR 10-Day NDVI Composites' will be held on 28 Sept. from 2:00 - 3:30 p.m. in room ET238, Energy Program Building. Ms. Katherine A. Mitchell, a visiting Fulbright research fellow from the University of Minnesota, will be the speaker.
Abstract:
Since the early 1980s many studies have tried to relate the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) from the Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) to physical and biological parameters of land cover, and to monitor vegetation phenology at regional and global scales. The seminar will examine the usefulness of time series analysis of NDVI for land cover classification in Southeast Asia, using a new AVHRR NDVI composite dataset available at the Asian Center for Research on Remote Sensing (ACRoRS). A method to analyze temporal sequences of NDVI, applying a Fourier transformation, will be described. The potential for global change modelling to take direct advantage of multi-temporal properties of NDVI will also be discussed.
