Welcome Faculty
The School of Environment, Resources and Development welcomes three new faculty members, starting September 2002 term as follows:
Dr. H.P.W. Jayasuriya
Assistant Professor in the Agricultural Systems and Engineering Field of Study, Agriculture and Aquatic Systems and Engineering Program.
Dr. Jayasuriya received his D.Eng. from AIT in 1999. Prior to joining AIT, Dr. Jayasuriya was a Senior Lecturer and Head of the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, University of Ruhuna, Sri Lanka. He has over seven years of industrial experience and over 10 years of teaching experience.

Dr. Nadarajah Mithulananthan
Assistant Professot in the Electric Power Systems Management
Field of Study, Energy Program.
Dr. Mithulananthan received his B.Sc.Eng. (Electrical Electronics) from University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka in 1993, M.Eng. (DPSM) from AIT in 1997 and Ph.D. (Electrical and Computer Engineering) from University of Waterloo, Canada in 2002. Dr. Mithulananthan has worked as a planning Engineer at the Generation planning Branch of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) and as Project Leader at Center of Excellence in Electric Power Technology, Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok. His research interests are on power system stability and control, FACTS controllers' application in transmission and distribution systems, and controllers' interactions-. He is member of several professional bodies, including the Institute of Electrical Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

Dr. Ole Pedersen.
Associate Professor, seconded by Danida for 2 years, in the
Aquaculture and Aquatic Resources Management
field of Study/Integrated Tropical Coastal Zone Management
area of Specialization, Agriculture and Aquatic Systems and
Engineering Program.
Dr. Pedersen obtained his Ph.D. in Ecology of Aquatic Plants from University of Copenhagen, Denmark in 1995. Prior to joining AIT, Dr. Pedersen was Associate Professor at the Freshwater Biological Laboratory, University of Copenhagen, Denmark. He has extensive teaching and research experience including supervision of postgraduate students.
