A special message of thanks
from Dr. Honda
Dr. Kiyoshi Honda, Coordinator of the Space Applications and Research
Program (STAR), would like to thank his STAR colleagues together with Dr. Kanchana Kanchanasut, Director of the Distributed Education (DEC);
Dr. Charoon Chirapaisarnkul, Director of the Regional Computer Center (RCC); Dr. Agus Harianto, Computer Specialist of RCC;
Mr. Olivier Nicole, Research Specialist of the Computer Science and Information Management Program, School of Advanced Technologies, for their support in holding the Earth Observation Workshop, held on 11 and 12 August at the AIT auditorium
and organized by CEOS (the Comittee on Earth Observation Satellites). Some
172 participants attended (109 from Thailand, 27 from North America, 25
from the USA, 15 from Europe and 21 from Asia (with 11 coming from Japan).
Earth Observation Activity Applications and Network Data and Information
Exchange Systems were demonstrated.
Special thanks are due to Dr. Kanchana and Mr. Olivier who set up the
AIII network routing for the workshop, making it possible to demonstrate
heavy network application smoothly. The workshop was able to access
to US/Canada via the AIII (AIT-Japan) and Transpac (Japan-US) and
to connect to HPREN (High Performance) Research Education Network which
assures high network speed.
The RCC made it possible to set up a network system at the AIT Center
and Auditorium. In addition, the workshop had set up a wireless LAN
system, enabling individual laptop PC to be connected to the Internet from
any place in the Auditorium. Participants were able to demonstrate heavy
www application from their laptops.
