Wanted: Desk Officer for
UMP-AIT Core Group
The UNCHS/Urban Management Programme (UMP)-AIT Core Group is urgently seeking
a Desk Officer who will assist in various outreach activities such as city
consultations and action programs in the region. The Desk Officer will
coordinate the activities engaged in by the concerned FoS (Urban Environmental
Management and Gender and Development Studies) within UMP-AIT, as well
as act as the day-to-day contact person for such activities and other related
concerns. The appointment begins on 1 October 2000, or not later than 15
October 2000.
Qualifications:
-
an advanced degree in policy, management, urban development and/or gender
studies - at least two years of management experience in the development field
- experience in dealing with urban development and gender issues and concerns
- excellent communication and interpersonal skills; fluency in English

fundamental computer skills: word processing, handling spreadsheets, desktop
design and formatting, internet use - basic skills in bookkeeping and accounting

experience in planning and administration of development projects with
emphasis on community and stakeholder participation - experience in project administration, including financial management

experience in organizing training/workshops/conferences at local/regional/international
level
Duties
The successful candidate is expected to perform the following:
- report to and work closely with members of UMP-AIT Core Group
-
help organize city consultations and locate local partner institutions
and experts in Asian cities -
keep a record of activities and accounts related to the projects / concerns
of the UMP-AIT Core Group and maintain a database for workplans, missions
and consultants -
coordinate with UMP-Asia and its secretariat, as well as with relevant
offices within AIT -
be constantly updated on the progress of city consultations, action programs
and / or regional activities of UMP-AIT Core Group -
keep a record of all local and regional institutions and persons affiliated
with the work of UMP-AIT -
liaison with appropriate and key persons in local partner institutions
and city government officials in Asian cities - develop and manage UMP-AIT database / mini-library

recruit consultants from within AIT and elsewhere to carry out the various
agreed activities - manage travel and visa arrangements for consultants and missions
- act as Secretary for meetings of UMP-AIT
- coordinate and organize regional or local workshops
