World Habitat Day 2000: Women and Urban Governance
The Urban Management Programme (UMP)/AIT Core Group, consisting of faculty from the Urban Environmental Management (UEM) and Gender and Development (GenDev) fields of study, is sponsoring World Habitat Day in Thailand under the theme 'Women and Urban Governance.' The event is being organized by the Gender and Development Research Institute, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, the Building Together Association and the Human Settlements Division, ESCAP. The speakers include Mr Samak Sundaravej, Bangkok Governor; Ms Maud Bringmann of ESCAP; Ms. Premruedee Champonood, Mayor of Pitsanuloke; and Ms. Penpuk Sirikul, Mayor of Ubon Rachatanee. To be discussed are the following topics: 'Women in Urban Governance: Elected Representatives' and 'Women in Urban Governance: Bureaucrats and Civil Society.' The event will be held at the ESCAP Hall, United Nations Building, Rajdamnern Avenue, Bangkok on 3 October from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
