Japanese Government Representatives Discuss Draft AIT Charter

AIT President Said Irandoust with Professor Vilas Wuwongse, Vice President for External Relations, met with Mr. Mitsuru Myochin, Principal Deputy Director, First Country Assistance Planning Division International Cooperation Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Japan and Mr. Daisuke Okabe, First Secretary, Embassy of Japan to Thailand, on 29 May 2007, to further discuss the feedback from the Government of Japan on the draft AIT Charter. Mr. Myochin and Mr. Okabe also took part in the special meeting of the Board.

The Government of Japan showed keen and continued interest to work closely with AIT into the future, and the AIT administration are confident that, in line with the sentiments expressed by Dr. Tej Bunnag, Chairman of the Board, they will be in position to come up with a Charter and draft Institute Bye-laws, which would be acceptable to the majority of AIT's partners.
