as Visiting Assistant Professor in the Structural Engineering Field of Study
for a period of two years beginning 15 May 2005. He is seconded to the School
by the International Center for Urban Safety Engineering, Institute of Industrial
Science of the University of Tokyo.
Dr. Kato is on leave as Assistant Professor from ICUS. He completed his doctoral
studies in Civil Engineering from the University of Tokyo in 1999. His research
interests revolve around the fields of concrete material and maintenance management,
specifically in the areas of mass transport properties of hardened cement composites,
deterioration mechanism of concrete, and the utilization of non-destructive
inspection to evaluate concrete structures.
The School of Civil Engineering is also pleased to welcome Dr. Kunnawee
Kanitpong as Assistant Professor in the Transportation Engineering (TRE)
Field of Study beginning 1 July 2005.

(USA) in 2004. She obtained her master's degree in Construction Management from
the University of Maryland at College Park (USA) in 1999. She graduated from
Chulalongkorn University (Thailand) where she garnered her bachelor's of science
degree in Civil Engineering in 1997.
Her areas of expertise revolve around the pavement analysis and design, highway
materials and construction, asphalt rheology and failure testing, and asphalt
concrete mixture design and analysis. She was trained in the asphalt area for
