Welcome Research Staff and Consultant
The School of Environment, Resources and Development cordially welcome three new staff members who have joined us during October to December 2002 as follows:
1. Mr. Michel Chretien Visiting Research Specialist in the Urban Environmental Management Field of Study
Mr. Chretien received his B.A. (Social Sciences) and M.A. (Economics) from Sorbonne University, Paris, France. He is senior urban finance specialist who was formerly head of the housing department in HIS, where he assisted in creating an Urban Training Center in Egypt and performed courses, studies and consulting assignments in China, Vietnam and the Philippines. A former project officer and housing finance specialist in the World Bank, Washington DC, he spent 5 years dealing with housing policy advice and creating housing finance institutions and municipal development banks in Poland, the Czech Republic, North Africa and Pakistan. As a private consultant, he carried out assignments relating to housing policy and finance at national level and to preparing urban projects in various countries (Europe, Africa, Middle East) for the World Bank, IFC, EBRD, GTZ, USAID and national governments. Originally a housing bank general manager, Mr. Chretien has specialized in institutional analysis of the urban sector, savings mobilization techniques and housing finance institutions, with additional experience in the fields of municipal finance and urban development project.

2. Mrs. Elizabeth A. Ogunlana.Senior Research Specialist in the Food Engineering & Bioprocess Technology and Regional & Rural Development Planning Fields of Study
Mrs. Ogunlana received her Ph.D. (Regional & Rural Development Planning) from AIT in 1995. She is a specialist in sustainable agricultural technology and has carried out research on alley farming, a sustainable agricultural technology for improving crops and livestock production. She is interested in organic farming and has studied the adoption of alley farming by farmers in southwestern Nigeria and southeast Asia.

3. Dr. William Westermeyer. Senior Consultant in the Environmental Engineering and Management Field of Study
He is currently the Regional Workshop Coordinator of the Global Climate Observing System Secretariat, which is based at the World Meteorological Organization Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. He previously spent 12 years as a Senior Analyst and Project Director in the Oceans and Environment Program of the United States Congress's Office of Technology Assessment (OTA) in Washington, DC.
