IP Initiative Update
Prof. Sudip Rakshit, Vice President for Research, and members of the Intellectual Property (IP) Committee continue to explore alternative licensing models for potential innovative inventions from AIT research, which can either be patented or be licensed directly to end users. The Institute's first experience was through a patent license agreement with an IP management company, wherein the company acquired the licenses for specific invention disclosures based on AIT researches. For the second batch of invention disclosures based on research conducted by Dr. R M A P Rajatheva, Associate Professor in the Telecommunications Field of Study of AIT's School of Engineering & Technology, the Institute is considering three possible options: (i) licensing the technologies to an IP management company, which will file for patent application; (ii) AIT to file the patent application directly with the PCT (International Patent Cooperation); or (iii) AIT to directly license the technologies to identified end-user companies. All students, faculty members, and research staff who have patentable inventions (ideas, concepts, methods, materials and processes), in which the Institute may have ownership rights, shall bring them to the attention of the Institute's IP Committee, through the VP-Research. Student researches (theses/dissertations) containing patentable inventions shall not be submitted to the AIT Library for public display.
