Visiting AIT

On February 6, 2004, Ms. Pang Li, First Secretary of the Embassy of People's Republic of China visited AIT.
During her visit she met with Prof. Jean-Louis Armand, AIT President; Prof. Mario T. Tabucanon, Provost; AIT faculty from China, namely Dr. Xiaoyong Chen, STAR and Dr. Yang Yi, AARM; Mr. Sanjeev Jayasinghe, Director of Promotion Activities; and Mr. Benjamin Gargabite, Admissions and Scholarships Director.

The purpose of the visit is to discuss the collaboration between AIT and the Ministry of Education of PR China particularly the new MoU between AIT and the Department of the International Cooperation and Exchanges of the Chinese Ministry of Education for the next phase of collaboration during 2004-2006 which is expected to be signed soon.
On February 10, 2004, a Japanese delegation from the Ministry of Public Management, Home Affairs, Posts and Telecommunications (MPHPT), Japan visited AIT.
The delegation, headed by Mr. Naohiro Ishida, Director-General of International Affairs Department, Telecommunications Bureau, is composed of Mr. Manabu Kanaya, Director, Standardization Division, Information and Communications Bureau; Mr. Hideyuki Oku, Director (International Cooperation), Telecommunications Bureau, Ms. Asako Toyoda , Senior Officer for International Cooperation, International Cooperation Division, Telecommunications Bureau; and Mr. Eiichi Watanabe, Assistant Director, International Cooperation Division, International Affairs Department and Telecommunications Bureau.
Accompanying the delegation were Mr. Kiyoshi Igarashi, Head of Research Alliance Office, Strategic Planning Division, Communications Research Laboratory (CRL);
Mr. Fumihiko Nakagawa, CRL Resident Representative at Asia Research Center, Thailand; Dr. Wataru Chujo, Director of CRL Asia Research Center; Mr. Sotaro Ito, Director of JAXA Bangkok Office; and Mr. Masahiko Sawabe, JICA Expert at NECTEC; and Mr. Tomoyuki Tanuma, Programme Officer of Asia-Pacific Telecommunity.
During the visit, the delegation met with Prof. Mario T. Tabucanon, Provost;
Dr. Kanchana Kanchanasut, Director of DEC and intERLab Steering Committee Chair; Prof. Michiro Kusanagi, STAR FoS Coordinator; Dr. Nitin Afzulpurkar, Microelectronics & Mechatronics FoS Coordinator; Dr. Teerapat Sanguankotchkorn, TC FoS Coordinator; Dr. Kazi Ahmed of TC; and Mr. Jean-Philippe Thouard, IT Coordinator.
The delegation also viewed the E-learning Experiment of 'I-Space Project' sponsored by JAXA/CRL.

Meanwhile on February 11, H.E. Mr. Heikki Tuunanen, Ambassador of Finland to Thailand, and Mr. Matti Junnila, Counselor for Asia and Oceania, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Finland, visited AIT.
The delegation was here to discuss the next phase of Finnish Government support to AIT for 2004-2006 which will provide for scholarships and technical assistance to ICT and P&PT; Fields of Studies.
