Visiting AIT
On February 25, 2004, a delegation from three National Polytechnical Institutes, France visited AIT. The delegation were comprised of Prof. Patrick Ozil, Vice President for International Affairs, Institut National Polytechnique de Grenoble (INPG); Mme. Brigitte Jamart and Prof. Alain Degiovanni, Vice President for International Affairs and Director for Technology Team, respectively, of Institut National Polytechnique de Lorraine (INPL); Mr. Roland Morancho and Mme. Joelle Courbieres, President and International Affairs, respectively, of the Institut National Polytechnique de Toulouse (INPT) accompanied by Dr. Jean-Pierre Delsol, General Deputy Director, Thai-French Innovation Center, King Mongkut Institute of Technology, North Bangkok.
During the visit the group met with Prof. Jean-Louis Armand, AIT President. The group also met with Prof. Huynh Ngoc Phien, Dean SAT; Prof. Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai, Dean SCE and Prof. Chongrak Polprasert, Dean SERD. The visit is aimed at establishing a possible collaboration on The purpose of the visit is to explore and discuss possible collaboration between AIT and the National Polytechnical Institutes, France.
In the course of ongoing collaborative efforts to strengthen joint cooperation between the Governments of India and Thailand through the Ministry of Science Technology, a team from both countries made a visit to AIT on February 25, 2004.
The Indian delegation from Department of Science & Technology (DST), Council for Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR), Indian Institute of Technology
(IIT) and Department of Biotechnology (DBT) comprised of: Mr. Y. P. Kumar, Advisor & Head (International Collaboration), DST; Mr. Sudhir Kumar, Joint Secretary and Head (ISTAD), CSIR; Dr. S. Natesh, Adviser, Department of Biotechnology and Mr. C. R. Murty, Director, International Division, DST. They were accompanied by Ms. Sawamitree Promyos, International Relations Officer, Office of Policy and Strategy of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Thailand.
The delegation met with Prof. Jean-Louis Armand, AIT President; Prof. Mario T. Tabucanon, Provost; Prof. H. N. Phien, Dean SAT; Prof. Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai, Dean SCE; Prof. Chongrak Polprasert, Dean SERD; Dr. Nazrul Islam, Acting Dean SOM; Prof. Gajendra Singh, Dean AIT Extension; Dr. Nitin K. Tripathi, Dr.
S. K. Rakshit and Mr. Sanjeev Jayasinghe, Promotion Activities Director. They also had the opportunity of meeting and discussing with Indian faculty and students later on in the day.
The visit of the delegation was mainly for the purpose of familiarization and acquaintance with AIT. A general overview of AIT was given by the President and Provost and questions and inquiries raised by the delegation were duly clarified. The Deans briefed the delegation on their respective Schools and Fields of Studies.
The possibility of opening up avenues of interactions between the Government of India through the Ministry of Science and Technology and AIT in all areas
were also raised. It was suggested that further discussions be made with the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Government of India to explore areas of student/faculty exchange.
In conclusion, worthy of mention are remarks and comments of the delegation made in relation to promotional activities in India. It was noted that there
is a need to create awareness of AIT in India as done by counterparts in the West. One mechanism is to arrange student recruitment seminars in collaboration with top universities and institutions in key cities of India, tapping AIT's effusive high level network of contacts, including the Ministry of Human Resources Development and Department of Higher Education. An AIT mission to explore the above avenues will be carried out shortly.
