NEW SERD PROJECT

The Swedish International Development Agency (Sida) Research Council has approved support to the 'Asian Regional Research Programme on Environmental Technology (ARRPET)' for three years from 01 January 2001 to 31 December 2003. Total support amounts to SEK 24 million.

ARRPET is coordinated by AIT and involves 18 national research institutions in eight Asian countries, namely, China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Vietnam.

The program's major research themes and concerned AIT faculty are as follows: Wastewater Treatment and Management (Dr. Ajit P. Annachhatre), Environmentally Sustainable Solid Waste Landfill Management in Asia (Dr. C. Visvanathan and Dr. Josef Trinkler), Integrated Control and Management to Improve Air Quality in Select Asian Developing Countries (Dr. Nguyen Thi Kim Oanh and Prof. Chongrak Polprasert), and Industrial and Hazardous Waste Treatment and Management (Dr. Kensuke Fukushi, Dr. Mousa Nazhad, Dr. A. Sathasivan)
