1 million baht scholarship for South Asia, included
Leading Thai construction company Seafco Public Company Limited (SEAFCO) recently signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the Asian Institute of Technology for collaboration on human resources development and promotion of research activities focusing on geotechnical issues in Thailand and the Asian region.
The MoA was signed on 19 July 2007 by Mr. Narong Thasnanipan, President of SEAFCO; Prof. Said Irandoust, AIT President; Mr. Tachapong Pravesvararat, Chairman of SEAFCO; and Prof. Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai, Dean of the School of Engineering and Technology (AIT).
In partnership with AIT's School of Engineering and Technology (SET), the SEAFCO research development team will participate in leading-edge academic research networks and strengthen their international research experience under the Co-operative Research Initiative Program. The deal will solidify the exchange of technical and academic information and materials. As well, AIT will arrange joint seminars and organize joint research programs.
According to the agreement, SEAFCO is to provide a full financial scholarship named the “Supot Thasnanipan Scholarship - for Overseas Student" to SET for the 2007 academic year intake. The scholarship is worth 1,005,000 baht, and is intended for a student of South Asian nationality to complete a master's degree in the field of Geotechnical and Geo-environmental Engineering (specialization in foundation engineering). SEAFCO will also support the student in conducting field experiments that contribute to thesis work.
The scholarship under this agreement is an extension of the ongoing "Supot Thasnanipan Scholarship Program," established in 2006 for Thai graduate students in honor of the founder of the company, Mr. Supot. However, buoyed by the company’s rapid domestic growth and its expansion into overseas markets in 2007, SEAFCO has decided to establish a scholarship program for foreign overseas students under this MoA with AIT.
SEAFCO is a leading provider of deep foundation works, comprising large bored piling, diaphragm walling and substructure construction in Thailand. SEAFCO is traded publicly under the ticker symbol “SEAFCO” on the Stock Exchange of Thailand.
