IBM provides software, training

Ms. Jadesada Kraisingkorn, country manager, Software Group, IBM Thailand,
and AIT President Said Irandoust shake hands after an agreement in which IBM
will provide software and training to AIT students and faculty.

AIT and IBM Thailand Co., Ltd. entered into an agreement on 12 October 2006 in which IBM will provide AIT with academic and research support, such as professional software, training, and internship opportunities. At a ceremony with IBM and AIT representatives other initiatives were discussed that may lead to future collaboration with the company.

The agreement, known as the IBM Academic Initiative Offering, provides AIT faculty and students with access to IBM professional software tools, such as the Rational, Websphere, Tivoli, Lotus, and DB2 product lines, and educational material related to software development. This educational material includes tutorials, course teaching kits (including syllabi, guides for instructors and students, lab setup guides and exercises, slides and sample tests). In addition, IBM provides access to online materials such as white papers, IBM Redbooks and Web-based training courses.

The IBM Academic Initiative is available to all AIT students, staff and faculty, and will provide particularly valuable support for the Software Engineering area of specialty, which is a part of the Computer Science and Information Management fields of study that will be inaugurated in January 2007. Other benefits to students and faculty of AIT that may emerge are internships, job opportunities and possible joint research projects.

Today’s event is very important to carrying out some essential elements of our strategic development plan,” said AIT President Said Irandoust. “We’re very happy to have IBM fulfilling such an important role.”
