Professor Mario Tabucanon to assist AIT in partnerships and initiatives

Former AIT President (Interim), Prof. Mario T. Tabucanon, recently spent a week at AIT in connection with a workshop on 'Leadership Program: Business Strategies for Sustainable Development,' and met with AIT President Said Irandoust on 23 July 2007. Professor Tabucanon will be assisting AIT in the following partnerships and initiatives:

  • The United Nations University Institute of Advanced Studies (UNU-IAS) collaboration with AIT: AIT will be invited to a meeting of the heads of institutions of higher education to discuss the UNU-IAS initiative to establish a network of academic institutions in the Asia-Pacific region to promote sustainability in postgraduate education and research. The meeting is scheduled to take place in Tokyo (or Yokohama), Japan on 19 (or 20) November 2007.
  • The AIT School of Management will be involved in the UNU-IAS initiative to promote the strengthening of sustainable development components in business schools.
  • AIT initiative with ASEAN: Professor Tabucanon has assisted in the formulation of a concept paper on 'ASEAN Scholarship Scheme on Environmental Education and Education for Sustainable Development: A Modality of Implementation through the Asian Institute of Technology,' which is expected to be discussed at the next meeting of the ASEAN Senior Officials on Environment (ASOEN) scheduled for early August 2007.
  • Collaboration with SIEP: As part of its strategy, the Sirindhorn International Environmental Park Foundation (SIEP), under the patronage of HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, aspires to build linkages with institutions of higher education. Professor Tabucanon, in his capacity as Senior Advisor to the Chairman of the Foundation, is assisting AIT in establishing a formal collaboration with SIEP, which has already been endorsed by the SIEP Foundation Board Technical Committee.
