Ashden Awards call for entries

The Ashden Awards for Sustainable Energy are seeking entries from inspirational and innovative local sustainable energy projects from Asia, Africa and Latin America to compete for a share of £200,000 of prize money.

The 2007 International Awards will be offering five first prizes of £30,000 each and second prizes of £10,000 each for projects that are using renewable energy to address one or more of the following areas: Food Security; Health and Welfare; Light; Education and Enterprise.

The closing date for entries is 14 November 2006.

One of the prizes will be a Special Africa Award in recognition of the combined challenges of climate change and poverty facing the region and the vital contribution which local renewable energy can make in tackling both.

Existing achievements will be rewarded and funding will be provided for future expansion. Award-winning schemes must have been operational for at least one year and must still be active. Successful schemes will be highly replicable to ensure maximum impact in the battle against climate change. Award winners are promoted to the media, practitioners and experts in the field as leading examples of sustainable energy in action at the local level. The awards will be presented at a VIP ceremony in London in June 2007.
