SERD held Appreciation Day
The traditional SERD Appreciation Day event was held at the AIT Conference Center on June 25. The event is part of the School's tradition of acknowledging and recognizing outstanding performances among its faculty, staff and students The event - mostly attended by SERD faculty, staff and students - was presided over by Prof. Jean-Louis Armand, AIT President; Prof. Mario. T. Tabucanon, Provost and Prof. Chongrak Polprasert, SERD Dean and Acting SCE Dean. The event was also attended by distinguished guests from Kochi University of Technology (KUT) namely, Prof. Masahiro Murakami, Professor of International Development and Prof. Tetsuya Sakai, Director of International Relations Center. They visited AIT to select a Ph.D. scholar -- Mr. Pham Duc Hoang -- to continue doctoral studies at KUT under the special scholarship program they have launched for recruiting high caliber students from all over the world.
The event started with this term's SERD graduands submitting their completed evaluation forms on the School's academic activities. This was followed by acknowledgements and the presentation of Certificates of Appreciation by AIT President and Provost to two distinguished SERD Professors, Prof. Sribas C. Bhattacharya, who has been working at AIT for 23 years and Prof. Gajendra Singh, with 29 years of service to the Institute under his belt. Both will be retiring at the end of this year.

This year's Teaching Award for the medium-sized class category went to Dr. Raimo O. Malinen for his course on Recovery Line Technology (ED 16.31). On behalf of Dr. Malinen, Dr. Esa Lehtinen received the award. The award for the small class category went to Prof. Ram M. Shrestha for his course on Energy-Economy Modeling (ED22.22).
The Laboratory Award 2004 -- presented by Prof. Jean-Louis Armand, AIT President, and Prof. Mario Tabucanon, Provost -- went to the Environmental Engineering Laboratory. Ms Salaya Punsiri and. Prof. Ajit Annachhatre received the award on behalf of the Laboratory.
The event was rounded of with awards acknowledging the contribution made by SERD's hardworking students. Most Appreciated Student Awards 2004 were presented to Mohammad Gausal Azam (ASE), Apipong Lamsam (EEM), Phan Minh Quoc Binh (Energy), Medon Yaganagi (NRM), Bhoj Raj Khanal (RRDP), and Md. Hafizul Hasan (UEM).
