The School of Environment, Resources and Development welcomes the following new faculty members who have joined AIT in August 2004 semester as follows:

Prof. Peter Robinson (right), has joined the Urban Environmental Management Field of Study as a Visiting Professor for a period of one month from August 1, 2004. He is currently a Professor on the Planning Programme at the School of Architecture, Planning and Housing, University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. His research interests are urban reconstruction and strategic planning. He can be contacted at room E128, ground floor of the main SERD building, tel. ext. 6428.

Dr. Motoyuki Asada (left), has joined the Environmental Engineering and Management Field of Study as a Visiting Senior Research Engineer for a period of four months starting August 16, 2004. He is seconded to AIT by the Shimizu Corporation, Japan.

Dr. Asada obtained B.Eng., M.Eng., and D.Eng. in Urban Engineering from the University of Tokyo in 1991, 1994, and 2003 respectively. Prior to joining AIT, Dr. Asada has been the Deputy Senior Research Engineer at the Institute of Technology, Shimizu Corporation, Japan. His main areas of research interests include geoenvironmental engineering, hazardous waste management, remediation of contaminated soil and groundwater, research and development of oil and heavy metal contaminated soil remediation by soil washing, oil contaminated soil remediation project in Kuwait, heavy metal contaminated soil remediation project in Japan, waste recycling for construction material, recycling project of paper sludge as in Japan, hazardous waste containment using bentonite clay, wastewater treatment using membrane technology from construction sites.

Dr. Ajay Kumar Sharma has joined the Agricultural Systems and Engineering Field of Study as a Visiting Associate Professor for the August 2004 semester. He is seconded to AIT by the Government of India. Dr. Sharma is currently working as an Associate Professor in the Department of Farm Machinery and Power Engineering, College of Technology and Engineering, Udaipur, Rajasthan, India. He obtained Ph.D. in Agricultural Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, India in 1998. Dr. Sharma will teach a course ED70.16: Controlled Environment Agriculture during August semester. He can be contacted at room A201, AFE building, tel. ext. 5475.
