Prospective collaboration with UNCTAD on trade capacity building

There will be possibilities for AIT to become involved as a resource provider in the future activities and possible extensions of the TrainForTrade project operating in Laos and Cambodia, as well as in other countries of the region.

This possibility was discussed during a visit on 20 September 2007 by Mr. Sven Callebau, Regional Expert in Laos and Cambodia from UNCTAD, who met  Professor Peter Haddawy, Vice President for Academic Affairs; Dr. Jonathan Shaw, Director, AIT Extension; Dr. Pritam K. Shrestha, Head of ERCO; and Mr. Jean-Philippe Thouard, French Cooperation Coordinator.

Mr. Callebaut is Chief Technical Advisor of the TrainForTrade project for Cambodia and Lao PDR, which is funded by French cooperation. This project is aimed at developing both countries' capacities in the fields of international trade and investment through training courses, training of trainers and establishing training networks.

AIT will also be invited to join a regional conference due to take place in early 2008 in Cambodia, which will bring together all potential partners to this extension. President Irandoust welcomes this occasion given to AIT to collaborate with UNCTAD on issues of primary importance to the development of the region.
