Call for fellowships

Instituo de Engenharia de Sistemas e Computadores do Porto is accepting applications to grant fellowships to graduates, to work in a research project, in the framework of Scientific Research and Technological Development Projects, managed by Science & Technology Foundation, included in the Community Support Framework 2000-2006, supported by European Regional Development Fund, European Science Foundation and the Portuguese State Budget.
Work Area: RF and Microwave Electronics; Antenna Design; Communication systems; Wireless and optical communications
Description of the work to be carried out: Electromagnetic bandgap structures are microwave or millimeter-wave-scaled counterparts of photonic crystals. The main objective of this project is to design, develop and implement novel RF/microwave components based on the electromagnetic bandgap technology that find applications in broadband communications.
The fellow will study the supporting theory of these structures and do a careful evaluation of the most suitable simulation methods. Three main types of microwave devices based on electromagnetic bandgap technology will be signed, simulated and characterized: antennas, filters and delay lines.
Type of Fellowship: Research Fellowships Bachelors and Graduates (Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
Duration of the Fellowship: from 3 July 2006-2 July 2007 (12 months/Renewable)
Minimum Profile required: Knowledge in RF/Microwave Electronics and Communication Systems.
