The Asian Association for Agricultural Engineering (AAAE) organized a four-day International Agricultural Engineering Conference (IAEC), the ninth in its series, at the AIT Conference Center during 3-6 December. This biennial event, convened by Professor V. M. Salokhe, was attended by nearly 120 participants, representing over 20 countries. Professor S. Kumar, Dean, SERD, represented AIT and attended the opening of the event on behalf of the President of AIT. The welcome address was delivered by the AAAE President, Professor Nobutaka Ito. The conference, which encompassed the theme of "Cutting Edge Technologies and Innovations on Sustainable Resources for World Food Sufficiency", concluded with success in achieving its professional objectives. There were a total of 22 countries represented at the conference from Australia, Bangladesh, Canada, China, Croatia, Germany, India, Indonesia, Iran, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Korea, Malaysia, Nigeria, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, USA, and Uzbekistan.
Professor Salokhe was bestowed the first AAAE-Sakai Science & Technology Award for his distinguished contributions to the field of agricultural engineering.
During the event, AIT President Said Irandoust had an occasion to meet with two AIT alumni; Dr. Mohammad E. Asadi, who is currently Assistant Professor at the Agricultural Research Center of Golestan, Iran, and Dr. Mohammad Imtiyaz, Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Technology at the Allahabad Agricultural Institute-Deemed University, India, who was also accompanied by Dr. Derrik Mario Denis, Joint Registrar (Academics) from the same university. They discussed areas in which there could be collaboration between their institutions and AIT, in particular under the integrated bachelor's-master's format.
