3R Knowledge Hub meeting set to formulate plan

Following the recent announcement of the waste reduce-recycle-reuse knowledge hub (3RKH) initiative of Asian Development Bank, AIT, the United Nations Environment Programme and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, an initial meeting to begin working out a plan is being called.

As the project activities could involve faculty from all three schools, Prof. Sudip Rakshit, vice president for research, requests interested faculty and staff who are interested to attend a briefing and discussion on this project. A meeting will be held on Monday, 4 September 2006 at 9 a.m. The venue is tentatively at the SERD office meeting room. Those interested to attend the meeting, please inform Prof. Visvanathan, Ext. 5640, visu@ait.ac.th.

AIT's goal through this initiative is to make AIT, a center of excellence on 3R, by 2008.

The major activities AIT will carry out in collaboration with UNEP will be:

  • Identify need of information and related services in the developing member countries of ADB, search existing information on 3R knowledge and relevant entities and identify areas and/or sectors on which the knowledge hub would focus.
  • Collect information on 3R knowledge in developing member countries focusing on good practices in relation to technology, policy, laws, regulation, and management.
  • Conduct research to develop knowledge product and/or 3R practical programs based on collected information to fulfill developing member countries' practical needs.
  • Produce 3R knowledge packages in both soft and hard copies such as training materials, knowledge booklets.
