400 industrial management experts converge on Bangkok in December
About 400 academics, professionals and industrial management experts from 24 countries around the world will converge on Bangkok next month to participate in the 7th Asia Pacific Industrial Engineering and Management System (APIEMS) conference. Discussions and keynotes based on the latest developments in these fields will provide a forum for the participants to share their knowledge and experience.
With the main focus on Effective Resource Management for Sustainable Development, the conference will be held in Bangkok for the first time from 17 to 20 December.
On the educational front, a U.S. expert will deliver a keynote speech on 'Accreditation of Engineering Schools: an American Experience and its Worldwide Applications.' The conference will also feature an expert from Toyota Motor Corporation (Japan) to talk on the basic concept of the Toyota Production System and some examples of KAIZEN activity in Europe and Japan.
Among the different keynotes speeches, note also the presentation of an expert from Thai Acrylic Fiber Company, related to a quality approach for achieving excellent business performances. This company received in 2005 the Japan's Quality Medal Award for its achievement in world-class Total Quality Management System.
The APIEMS is a network for Industrial Engineering and Management Science individuals. It has 36 board members coming from nine economies: Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Korea, Philippines, Taiwan and Thailand. It holds conferences to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas on the latest developments in academic thinking and successful case examples. The wider audience will therefore benefit from the knowledge and experience of leading practitioners and academics in this area.
The APIEMS conference was initiated in 1998 with two Sino-Japanese and Korean-Japanese joint conferences. Since then, this major Asia-Pacific event for international scholars in the areas of Industrial Engineering and Management has been held successfully in Kanazawa, Japan in 1999, Hong Kong in 2000, Taipei in 2002, Gold Coast in 2004 and Manila in 2005.
This year's conference in Bangkok is organized by the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in collaboration with the Thai Researchers Consortium of Value Chain Management and Logistics (Thai VCML), the Industrial Engineers Network (IENET) Thailand and the Operations Research Network (ORNET) of Thailand
