AIT signs agreements with three companies for RTG-funded Joint Research Projects

The contract agreement was signed by AIT President Said Irandoust with
representatives of the three companies.
Mr. Charnvit Jarusombathi, Senior Executive Vice President of Advance
Agro Public Company Limited signed the agreement with AIT for joint
research project on “Environmental Impact of Double A Paper”. The
project will be jointly researched by Mr. Satya S. Nanda, Environmental
Development Manager, Advanced Agro Public Company Limited and Ir. Erik
L.J. Bohez, Associate Professor, AIT.

Dr. Chinnarat Boonchu, Chief Executive Officer, D.A. Research Center
Company Limited signed the agreement for the project “Residues from
Pulp and Paper Industries for Bioethanol Production”. Dr. Chirdchan
Pukkahutra, Agriculture Development Section Manager at D.A. Research
Center Company Limited and Prof. Sudip K Rakshit, Vice President
(Research) at AIT will be the research partners in the project. The aim
of this project is to reduce cost of bioethanol production from
cellulosic biomass especially using residues from pulp and paper
industry as a raw material focus on pretreatment, hydrolysis,
fermentation and economic study.

Mr. Mangkorn Dhanasarnsilp, Vice Chairman, The Federation of Thai
Industries signed the agreement for the project “A Ubiquitous Computing
Architecture for Factory Automation, Control, and Traceability”. The
project will be jointly researched by Mr. Kayasit Leelutanon, Likitomi
(Thailand) Company Limited and Dr. Paul Janecek, Assistant Professor of
Information Management, and Field Coordinator, Computer Science and
Information Management, AIT.

RTG projects encourage AIT faculty and researchers to jointly conduct
research with the private sector for duration of 18 months. AIT
receives support from the Royal Thai Government of one million Baht for
each project, while the participating company provides one million Baht
as a matching contribution. RTG projects are a key national initiative
supporting the country’s concept of placing people as the main focus of
developmental projects. This year, the RTG program has supported AIT
with 19 million Baht, its highest financial commitment in the program
that began in 2002.
