In a presentation delivered at AIT on 10 March 2015, Ms. Sandra
Schneider of International Business Development, Austrian Institute of
Technology stated that the Smart City vision offers maximum quality of
life to its inhabitants, while simultaneously working on social
acceptance of the concept. It also seeks to improve safety and
security, and focusses on clean environment and ecology.
Accompanied by Mr. Stephan Spazier, Commercial Attaché, Austrian
Embassy in Thailand, the duo sought AIT’s expertise and participation
in collaborative projects between the two institutes, which also share
the same acronym.
The Austrian Institute of Technology AIT, Technology is a governmental
owned Austrian research and development institute that comprises of
five departments of Energy, Mobility, Health & Environment, Safety
and Security, and Innovation Systems. It works in close collaboration
with industry and customers from public institutions. Ms. Schneider
added that they have worked extensively in Indonesia, and they are keen
to work in cities in Southeast Asia.
AIT President Prof. Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai spoke about the
contribution of Austria to AIT, adding that the institute would welcome
faculty and scientists from the Austrian Institute of Technology.
Prof. Sivanappan Kumar, Vice President for Academic Affairs; Prof.
Kanchana Kanchanasut, Vice President for Research; Dr. Shobhakar Dhakal
and Dr. Sohee Minsun Kim of School of Environment, Resources and
Development (SERD); Dr. Naveed Anwar, Executive Director, AIT
Consulting; Dr. Gabrielle Groves, Head, External Relations and
Communications Office (ERCO); Ms. Narumon Wangnai of AIT Extension; and
Md. Zia Islam, Senior Academic Officer, School of Management also
participated in the meeting.
