AIT faculty edit book on Climate Change and Water Resources

AIT faculty edit book on Climate Change and Water Resources

Released in May 2014, the book has 11 chapters divided into four
sections covering various aspects of water and climate change.

AIT’s Interim President, Prof. Worsak Kanok Nukulchai has felicitated
the authors stating that the editors of this book are well-known
international experts in the field of climate change and water
resources. In his foreword, Prof. Worsak says: “Over the years, water
education and research at AIT has kept pace with the ever-changing
needs in the region and beyond, and has dynamically evolved from being
engineering oriented to sustainable development oriented.”

In his foreword, Prof. Kuniyoshi Takeuchi, Director, International
Centre for Water Hazard and Risk Management (ICHARM) and Professor
Emeritus, University of Yamanashi, commends the authors stating that he
“expects the book to make a significant contribution to the growing
body of literature on climate change and water resources.” He expressed
his confidence that the book will serve as a useful tool for students,
researchers and decision makers to develop and implement the knowledge
gained.

Says Dr. Shrestha, “This book covers fundamental issues in climate
change and water resources management, and balances both theoretical
propositions with practical examples and case studies from around the
world.”

Prof. Babel adds that the book seeks to cover all aspects of water and
climate change. “It presents principles of climate change science and
its effects on earth’s water supply,” Prof. Babel says. The book
provides a broad outline of the many interrelated aspects of climate
variations, climate change, and connections to water resources.

The authors say that the book is designed to help managers with
developing strategies, implementing policies, and investing in
infrastructure and information sources for integrated water resources
management. Besides it could serve as teaching material in universities
and other institutions of higher education and research. Another
highlight of the book is the focus on adaptation.

Both Dr. Shrestha and Prof. Babel are faculty at Water Engineering and
Management (WEM) at AIT’s School of Engineering and Technology (SET).
Besides Dr. Sangam and Prof. Babel, the third editor of the book, Dr.
Vishnu Prasad Pandey serves at the Asian Institute of Technology and
Management (AITM), Nepal. Book chapter contributors include Dr. Anshul
Agarwal and Dr. Victor R Shinde, both from WEM, AIT.
