Prof Joyashree Roy joins AIT as Bangabandhu Chair Professor

Prof. Joyashree Roy has joined the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) as the Bangabandhu Chair Professor.

The Bangabandhu Chair on Sustainable Energy was formally inaugurated on 15 March 2018 following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Government of Bangladesh.

Naoya Tsukamoto joins as Director, RRC.AP

Mr. Naoya Tsukamoto, has joined as the new Director of the Regional Resource Centre for Asia and the Pacific (RRC.AP) at AIT. He succeeds Mr. Osamu Mizuno, who has completed his tenure.

Mr. Tsukamoto obtained his B.Sc. at University of Tokyo, and M.Sc. in Environmental Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.

Watcharin Intha to be new Director, AIT Library

Ms. Watcharin Intha will be the new Director of the AIT Library. Currently serving as Associate Director, AIT Library, she will assume her new responsibilities from 1 July 2018. Ms. Watcharin replaces Ms. Pranee Kiriyanant, who will be retiring after having served AIT for 20 years.

Prof ATM Nurul Amin felicitated with Emeritus Professor honor at Graduation

Professor ATM Nurul Amin was honored at the 129th Graduation of the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) on 18 May 2018 following the conferment of the title of Emeritus Professor. Earlier, the AIT Board of Trustees had approved the award of the title of Emeritus Professor to Professor Amin at its meeting held on 11 January 2018.

Professor Amin was honored with the Emeritus Professor Certificate at the Graduation by AIT President Professor Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai and H.E. Mr. Pradap Pibulsonggram, Vice Chairperson of AIT Executive Committee.

Dr Wenchao Xue joins AIT

Dr. Wenchao Xue has joined the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) as Assistant Professor in Environmental Engineering and Management in the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Change, School of Environment, Resources and Development.

Dr. Wenchao received her PhD in Urban Engineering from the University of Tokyo, Japan, and her M.E. and B.E. in Environmental Science and Engineering from Tsinghua University, China.

Dr George Hylden joins as School of Management as Visiting Faculty

Dr. George Veyron Van Hylden has joined AIT’s School of Management as visiting faculty member.

Dr. George Hylden holds a Master's and Doctorate degree from the University of Cambridge and is an alumnus of Princeton University.

He has held visiting academic positions at universities in Singapore, China and Thailand while pursuing his interdisciplinary academic interests in strategy, international business, finance and economics.

Dr Takuji W. Tsusaka joins as Assistant Professor

Dr. Takuji W. Tsusaka has joined the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in the Department of Development and Sustainability as Assistant Professor.

Dr. Tsusaka obtained his Bachelor of Engineering in Applied Physics from University of Tokyo (1999), Master of International Development Studies jointly from National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS) and Foundation for Advanced Studies on International Development (FASID),Tokyo (2008), and Ph.D. in Development Economics from GRIPS (2011).

Prior to joining AIT, he was serving as a scientist at the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics  (ICRISAT) in its Eastern and Southern Africa Program.

Dr Sylvia Szabo joins as Assistant Professor

Dr. Sylvia Szabo has joined the Department of Development and Sustainability at AIT’s School of Environment, Resources and Development (SERD) as an Assistant Professor.

Prior to AIT, she was working as a Nutrition Advocacy Advisor at Save the Children, United Kingdom.

Dr Manzul Kumar Hazarika takes over as Director, GIC

Dr. Manzul Kumar Hazarika has assumed charge as Director of AIT’s Geoinformatics Center (GIC). He takes over from Dr. Lal Samarakoon.who served as Director of GIC for 14 years.

The announcement was made by AIT President Prof. Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai in an email sent to the AIT community on 12 January 2018.

Dr. Hazarika will be responsible for coordination and administrative responsibilities of GIC. Prior to assuming this position, he was serving as Director (Project Operations) at GIC. A graduate from Jawaharlal Nehru Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, Jabalpur, India (Agricultural Engineering, 1989); Dr. Hazarika holds a Master’s from IIT Kharagpur (Soil and Water Conservation Engineering, 1990) and AIT (Remote Sensing and GIS, 1997). He obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Tokyo (Civil Engineering, 2003). He has been serving in AIT since December 2003.
