Mr. Tanong Tantithirawit (above) , an AIT alumnus (EE'75), was recently appointed as Director General of the Wastewater Management Authority (WMA), Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Thailand.
Mr. Tanong received his M. Eng. in 1975 from AIT in the environmental engineering field of study.
Roundtable on Sustainable Solid Waste Management Policies and
Policy Dialog on Urban Wastewater Management and Sanitation
The Public Works and Transport Institute in Lao PDR, in cooperation with the Southeast Asia Urban Environmental Management Applications Project at the Asian Institute of Technology, will hold a roundtable discussion and dialogue on solid waste and wastewater management.
"Negotiation as part of an environmental mediation", an AARM seminar series will be held on 22 February 2008, 9:00 a.m. at the Milton Bender Auditorium, AIT Extension Building. The seminar will be conducted by Professor Kem Lowry from the University of Hawaii at Manoa, U.S.A.

The School of Engineering and Technology (SET) welcomes Dr. Shinji Tanaka as a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Transportation Engineering Field of Study for a period of two years, from1 January 2008 to 31 July 2009. He is seconded to SET by the International Center for Urban Safety Engineering (ICUS), Institute of Industrial Science of the University of Tokyo.
School of Environment, Resources and Development welcomes Dr. Charles O.P. Mapaung who joined AIT in January 2008 Semester as a Visiting Associate Professor of the Energy Field of Study, SERD.
Before joining AIT, Dr. Mapaung was an Associate Professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering, Christian University of Indonesia, Jakarta, Indonesia.
Recently Dr. Asbjorn Bergheim, Senior Research Scientist Marine Environment from the International Research Institute of Stavanger (IRIS), Norway visited AIT and met with Professor S. K. Rakshit, Vice President for Research. IRIS is currently collaborating with AIT, with Dr. Dhirendra Thakur as the AIT PI, in a project contributing their expertise in the areas of water circulation and exchange, recirculation of water, oxygenation of water and environmental monitoring of water and organism quality.
A delegation of the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) led by Mr. Michiaki Ohkubo, Director of Department of International Affairs, visited AIT on 5 February 2008 and met with Professor Vilas Wuwongse, Vice President, External Relations and others senior AIT administrators.
On 29 January 2008, Professor Sudip K. Rakshit, Vice-President for research, received a visit from Dr. Gabriel de Taffin, outgoing Regional Director for Continental South-East Asia, and Dr. Jean-Claude Maillard, the new Regional Director for Continental South-East Asia as of 1 February 2008, both from the French Agricultural Research Center for International Development (CIRAD).
