Technology is relevant to everyone. This has been proven especially true during the current coronavirus pandemic when technology has become a necessity for people’s lives, and we can be certain that it will continue to influence various aspects of human life.

Thailand’s 27th Prime Minister Hon. Abhisit Vejjajiva commanded the stage at the Asian Institute of Technology on 26 August 2020, delivering a keynote speech titled: “Future, We Hear You: Reforming Education for Lifelong Learning.
The Covid-19 pandemic may have paused the world, but it cannot alter the passion of newcomers joining AIT. This was exhibited by the high number of the new students joining the Hybrid Orientation Ceremony for the Fall Semester 2020 on August 3, with 168 new students attending in-person at the campus and more than 200 new students from countries in Africa, Europe, Asia and North America joining online.
AIT, the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) and 6 provinces of Thailand including Bangkok, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Nakhon Pathom, Samutprakarn and Samut Sakhon signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on 2 August 2020 to cooperate on the research project “Integrated Assessment of SDGs Using Earth Observation Technology for Bangkok Metropolitan Region (BMR).
The agreement represents a commitment of NRCT, AIT and the 6 provinces aimed at developing an integrated assessment of selected Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) using Earth Observation (EO) technology in synergy with regional and local monitoring data and information applicable to the BMR. The project will be carried out during the next three years, covering: Phase 1 - development of a framework and integrated methodology, including stakeholder participation with priority SDGs and targets; Phase 2 - development of the EO technology for supporting the monitoring and assessment of identified SDGs indicators and demonstrate these methodologies; and Phase 3: development of good practices and interlinked strategies.
Three faculty members from the AIT School of Engineering and Technology and AIT School of Environment, Resources and Development contributed as editors to newly released books and a journal.

New Appointments to the AIT Board of Trustees
The AIT Board of Trustees reflects the international character of AIT and is made up of representatives of current partner governments and international organizations, as well as prominent individuals.
AIT Solutions has just celebrated its 10th Anniversary of operations. Its journey started in 2010 when AIT senior management decided to create a specialized center that would serve as an interface linking academia and industry.
A group of Sri Lankan AIT Alumni in Australia has generously donated AUD 6,818 towards the upgrading of the CREATOR SPACE facility at the AIT Entrepreneurship Center (EC) into a Smart Modified Classroom (SMC).
This enhancement of the CREATOR SPACE into an SMC will equip the facility with the latest technology allowing the EC to conduct all its events in the hybrid mode, including its flagship Distinguished Entrepreneur Talk Series and other mentorship workshops like Experts Talk, which can be attended by both on-campus and online audiences.
Recipients of the Kurita Scholarship 2020 Award were honored at a virtual award ceremony organized on 26 August 2020.
