On 18 October 2007, the Institute received the visit of Dr. Moncef Meddeb, Advisor to the Administration of the Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC). AIT President Said Irandoust personally met him, together with Dr. Pritam K. Shrestha, Head ERCO, and Mr. Jean-Philippe Thouard, Advisor to the administration.

During the "Underground Economy" workshop recently organized by AIT's Internet Education and Research Laboratory (intERLab), AIT President Said Irandoust along with Dr. Naveed Anwar met with Mr. Ammar Jaffri, Project Director in the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) of Pakistan, who is one of the workshop's resource persons.

2007 Nobel Peace Prize co-winner IPCC Chairman to speak at AIT via international video conference

You are all cordially invited to join a special lecture this week from Dr. Rajenda Pachauri, IPCC Chairman entitled "The IPCC Fourth Assessment and  Beyond", on Friday, 2 November at 11:00 a.m. in the Milton Bender Auditorium, Asian Institute of Technology.

Dr Edward Webb, Chair of the Organizing Committee, and the rest of the team, have made excellent preparations leading up to the AIT, Thammasat University (TU) and the National Science & Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), Sports Day event which will be hosted by NSTDA on 26 October 2007. Many more of AITians are encouraged to participate in this event, which will help further strengthen AIT's relationships with its neighboring institutions.

Gender and Development Studies Field of Study, School of Environment, Resources and Development (SERD), will organize a seminar on “Debt, Mobility and Dependency in Southeast Asia: The Case of Cambodian Migrant Workers in Thailand” by Dr. Annuska Derks, on  Thursday, 25 October 2007, 4:00 – 5:30 p.m., Room – E 220.

Dr. Annuska Derks obtained M.A. degrees in social anthropology and development studies and a Ph.D. in social sciences from the Radboud University Nijmegen, the Netherlands.

AIT’s Offshore Technology and Management Program (OTM), School of Engineering and Technology, will organize a seminar on “Lessons learnt from Offshore Projects” by Prof. Marc Ducros, Member of the Executive Committee, Total Professors Association, on Wednesday, 24 October 2007, from 2:30 – 4:30 p.m. at Milton Bender Auditorium.

Prof. A.T.M. Nurul Amin of Urban Environmental Management in the School of Environment, Resources and Development (SERD) at AIT will present a Professorial Lecture on “Legacies in Planning Education: Economic Aspects of the Informal Sector & Urban Environmental Management” on Wednesday, 24 October 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at AIT Center Auditorium

Abstract

This lecture is a personal account of an economist whose knowledge pursuit has been in the problematic of development, urbanization and environment and the professional work on the informal sector and urban environmental management.

An AIT delegation headed by the Chairman of the Board, Dr. Tej Bunnag, and which included the two Vice Chairpersons of the Board, H.E. Mrs. Merete Fjeld Brattested, Ambassador of Norway, and Dr. Jean-Pierre A Verbiest, ADB Country Director for Thailand, and AIT President Said Irandoust, paid a visit to Mr. Virasakdi Futrakul, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Thailand, on 11 October 2007.

The AIT delegation was able to provide a detailed briefing on the AIT Charter, which has now been formally submitted to the Ministry as the Board approved final version.

On 11 October 2007, AIT President Said Irandoust, participated at a dinner reception hosted by Mr. Christer Holtsberg, Director of the Swedish Environmental Secretariat for Asia, to welcome H.E. Mr. Lennart Linnér, the new Ambassador of Sweden to Thailand.
