Robot stands in for Grade 6 graduates at AITIS Virtual Graduation 2020

AIT International School holds a Virtual Graduation for its 6th Grade graduates kept home by the COVID-19 situation

The AIT International School (AITIS) this week introduced some innovation into its annual graduation ceremony during the unprecedented Covid-19 pandemic, when an AIT robot represented members of its Grade 6 Graduating Class and received their graduation certificates from the school principal, while proud parents and the young graduates watched online from home.

Since January of this year, the Coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis has spread across the world. By the end of May, the situation was quite good in Thailand, but there are places around the world, including many of the countries where our AIT students, faculty, and staff come from, which are still heavily affected.

AIT joins UNESCO’s The Plastic Initiative

AIT has joined UNESCO’s newly unveiled ‘The Plastic Initiative’

https://theplasticinitiative.org/ along with other Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO), UN-Habitat, United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), National Science Museum (NSM), Thailand and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

The Plastic Initiative partnership formally kicked-off at a webinar held on 12 June 2020 to celebrate World Environment Day 2020: Biodiversity.

AIT’s Fight Against Covid-19

The AIT Entrepreneurship Center (AIT EC) released an Open Call: AIT’s Fight Against Covid-19 in April inviting the AIT community and alumni to take part in fighting the global pandemic that struck the world. The competition was looking for projects that can create real impact to fight Covid-19 within 6 months.

AIT Campus Community Received 20,000 Face Mask Donation from AIT Belt and Road Research Center

Thirteen hundred students, staff, and residents on AIT campus last week received 10 free face masks each from an AIT Belt and Road Research Center donation of 20,000 masks.

This humanitarian gesture for our campus community was made possible by an injection of 150,000 Thai baht from the AIT Chinese Alumni Chapter into the AIT Belt and Road Research Center, supplemented with personal financial contributions by the AIT Leadership – the President, the three Vice Presidents, and the three Deans.

AIT Ranks 19th in World in SDG1—No Poverty in Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2020

AIT participated for the first time in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings, which looks at global universities’ commitment and performance in furthering the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).  Over 850 universities from 89 countries participated in this ranking exercise by submitting input during 2019, and the results were just published on April 22, 2020 by THE.

AIT ranks #19 in the world for SDG1—No Poverty, which indicates a well-deserved recognition of AIT’s work in providing education to students from countries where poverty is an issue, of our research on poverty issues, and of our success in producing graduates who go back home to help their countries eradicate poverty.
