Integrated Bachelor's-Master's Program with AUST Discussed
Dr. Viphandh Roengpithya, President and Vice Chancellor of Asian University of Science and Technology AUST accompanied by Dr. Apichat Tungthangthum, Dean, Faculty of Engineering & Technology, AUST visited AIT on 10 July 2007 and met with AIT President Said Irandoust; Professor Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai, Dean, School of Engineering and Technology, and Dr. Manukid Parnichkun.

Meeting to Further Discuss UNEP-AIT Carbon Neutrality Initiative

On 10 July 2007, AIT President Said Irandoust, together with Professor S. K. Rakshit, Vice President for Research; Professor Ram M. Shrestha; Dr. Animesh Dutta; Dr. Jonathan Shaw, Director AIT Extension (also Chair of the AIT Environment Task Force) and Dr. H. L. Tien, Head, Infrastructure met with Mr. Surendra Shrestha, Director, UNEP-RRC.AP Office (also UNEP Regional Director for Asia Pacific) and the UNEP team to further discuss the carbon neutrality initiative.

FOI-Swedish Defence Research Agency, Sweden, and AIT to Jointly Develop a Concrete Proposal in Underwater Technology

During the recent visit to AIT, Dr. Matts Gustavsson, Head of Department of Underwater Research at FOI-Swedish Defence Research Agency in Sweden which is one of the world's leading research institutes, was impressed by AIT's work, in particular that being done in the field of underwater technology.

Call for Papers for Sustainable Management Workshop

Call for Papers for Workshop on Sustainable Management of Wastewater for Agricultural Production in Water-scarce Countries.

The International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA) and the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) have launched the idea of a 'Bridging Workshop Series' to bridge the knowledge gap between the advanced research institutions, including the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) system, and young professionals from national agricultural research institutions (NARS).

The first 'Bridging Workshop' will be hosted by ICARDA and IWMI, and will address aspects relating to the safe use of wastewater in agriculture.

Mid-year Institute Forum on 23 August

The next mid-year Institute Forum will take place on Thursday, 23 August, 9:00 a.m. -12:00 noon at the AIT Conference Center Auditorium. At the forum, AIT President Said Irandoust will be reporting to members of the AIT community some of the activities and initiatives undertaken over the past 6 months and also activities and plans for the future.

AIT Alumni EXPAT Party 2007

As part of the AIT Alumni Association (AITAA) activities for the year 2007, AITAA is organizing alumni EXPAT Party for the purpose of meeting with old friends, successful senior alumni and acquaintances as well as making new friends within the AIT Family.

AIT Plans to Have a Joint Master’s Degree Program with Two Top Indonesian Universities
AIT proposed to have a joint master’s degree program with two top universities in Indonesia -- Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), and the Universitas Gadjah Mada Indonesia with funding to be provided by the Bureau of Planning and International Cooperation, Ministry of National Education (MNE). MNE plans to send as many as 4000 lecturers (today only 400) for higher studies abroad, starting from 2008. The program aims to share experiences amongst the top national universities in Indonesia as well as international institutions.

AIT Mission to Azerbaijan
The proposal on "Capacity Building for Education in ICT in Azerbaijan" jointly developed by the Government of Azerbaijan, AIT and the International Institute of Geo-Information and Earth Observation (ITC) Netherlands was endorsed by the Azerbaijan cabinet and was officially submitted by the Government to the Asian Development Bank (ADB) on 20 June 2007. This was among several outcomes of the meetings and discussions during the mission of AIT President Said Irandoust and Mr. Nico Barito, Senior Fellow, United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), to Baku, Azerbaijan, at the invitation of the Government from 18-21 June 2007 through the support of the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

AIT to Organize Disaster Workshops in India and Sri Lanka
Regional and Rural Development Planning field of study, School of Environment, Resources and Development, AIT, will organize a workshop on Local Institutions’ Response Towards Disaster and Risk Mitigation which will be held in Nagapattinam, India from 23 to 24 July 2007 and in Hambantota, Sri Lanka from 27 to 28 July 2007.Introduction Disasters are on the rise and past two decades have witnessed the catastrophes across the world including the recent tsunamis.
