AIT Masters Thesis Competition - May 2007

Prof. Sudip Rakshit, Vice President for Research, has asked the AIT Community to prepare for the Y. K. Shinghania Thesis Competition to be held among the AIT graduating students in May 2007. The competition, initiated last year, comprises a series of seven (7) competitions in school-wise groupings of related fields of study as follows:

School of Environment Resources and Development

Resources (AARM, ASE, FEBT, NRM, PPT)
Energy and Environment (E, EEM)
Development (UEM, GDS, RRDP)

School of Engineering and Technology

ICT (CSIM, TC, RSGIS)
Civil (ST, WEM, CEIM, GGE, TE)
ISE (DME, IEM, Mech, Mic)

School of Management

MoT, IB, SMT, IPM

In order to encourage participation, the Office of Vice President for Research will meet with field of study coordinators in each category to finalize the entry and judging criteria, dates, etc.

Two teams from AIT’s Mechatronics Field of Study, School of Engineering and Technology (SET) won 1st and 2nd rank in the preliminary round of the inaugural Thailand Intelligent Vehicle Challenge, Thailand Championship, organized on 21 March 2007 at Bangkok Racing Circuit.

AIT President Said Irandoust is pleased to announce that AIT received the latest version of the draft AIT Charter from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Thailand on 14 March 2007. Consultation among members of the Executive Committee on this latest version has resulted in general agreement on all of the issues and the final version will soon be finalized and submitted to the Board of Trustees for their consideration at their 28 March 2007 meeting.

AIT and UNITAR to jointly implement a vocational technical education and teacher training program

The possibility has arisen for AIT and UNITAR jointly to implement a vocational technical education and teacher training program financed by the British Petroleum (BP). The project would be part of BP's Corporate Social Responsibility Strategy, an active and a major industrial partner in Azerbaijan.

Environmental Director of Volvo Sweden visits AIT regarding S9

Dr. Edward Jobson, Environmental Director for Volvo, Sweden visited AIT 12-13 March 2007 and held further discussions with AIT administration on organization of the international conference entitled 'Spiritual Transformation for Sustainable Development: A Forum for Common Ethical Values of World Religions' ('S9' for short). The S9 event is scheduled to take place at AIT in 2008.

More details on the concept and conference will be made available through a special website which is currently being developed.

AIT and University College of Boras, Sweden, discussed the possibility of various types of cooperation during the visit of Professor Mohammad Taherzadeh, from the School of Engineering, University College of Boras, Sweden, to AIT last week where he had meetings with Professor Sudip K. Rakshit, Vice President for Research, Professor Chongrak Polprasart and other faculty members.

AIT faculty invited to join the International Advisory Board of UN-HABITAT's 'State of the World's Cities Report 2008/9'

Prof. Nurul Amin, Urban Environmental Management (UEM), School of Environment Resources and Development(SERD), is invited to join the International Advisory Board of UN-HABITAT's 'State of the World's Cities Report 2008/9', which is to be launched in 2008 during the Fourth World Urban Forum to be held in Nanjing, China.

New Human Resources Head appointed

New Human Resources Head appointed

Ms. Phanit Tiravongchaipunt, was appointed new Head-Human Resources Office, effective from 15 March 2007. Ms Phanit is responsible for overseeing the personnel management of the Institute. This will involve conducting HR functions in accord with labor laws, implementing terms and conditions of employment for employees, facilitating career development, and planning short- and long-term HR operations.
