Beginner's Thai offered

The Language Center announces the opening of a beginner's level Thai course.

The course runs from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays from 28 August to 16 October 2006. Maximum class size is 20 persons.

Fee is 1,500 baht for students and 2,000 for staff to be paid at registration.

Bio-innovations in agriculture and health workshop in November

The Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) coordinated by Prof. Sudip K. Rakshit, with support from the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), is organizing a workshop on 'Integrated Policies for Bio-innovations in Agriculture and Health in Asia' on 13 – 15 November 2006. Additional support for the workshop has been provided by the Rockefeller Foundation (Southeast Asia Regional Office). The workshop will bring together researchers, NGOs and CBOs and policy-makers from countries in South, Southeast and East Asia to critically examine existing policies on bio-innovations in the region, identify existing research gaps and recommend a strategy for information sharing, learning across borders and partnering in the region.

The Greater Mekong Subregion Academic and Research Network is hosting an international conference on Sustainable Development Issues and Prospects for the Greater Mekong Subregion from 6 to 7 December 2006 at AIT.

The conference is intended to initiate and stimulate international discussion on sustainable development issues in the Greater Mekong Subregion in the areas of energy, environment and natural resource management.
